چکیده

Background Left ventricular rotational deformation, which arises from contraction of myofibers arranged in a helical structure, plays a crucial role in cardiac mechanics. Myocardial dysfunction in cardiomyopathies is usually associated with altered diastolic rotation [1-3]. However, regional myocardial abnormalities in various cardiomyopathies may result in regional alterations of both systolic and diastolic rotational motion. The regional variation of LV rotation in healthy subjects has been previously studied [4-7]. We hypothesize that LV regional rotation abnormalities may be a sensitive marker in heart diseases where myocardial structure is disordered. In this regard, we investigate the regional rotation pattern of the mid LV wall in both healthy subjects and patients with cardiomyopathies. In this study, LV regional rotation is assessed through dense radial tagging [8], which facilitates analysis of the rotational motion and provides detailed regional measurement by increasing the achievable circumferential resolution.

Evaluation of left ventricular segmental wall motion in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy with myocardial tagging.

BACKGROUND Segmental wall motion was assessed noninvasively in eight patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and six healthy volunteers by magnetic resonance myocardial tagging. METHODS AND RESULTS Localization scans were performed for determination of the true short-axis views of the left ventricle (double-angulated view). Spatial modulation of magnetization was used to produce a rectangul...

Clinical assessment of left ventricular rotation and strain: a novel approach for quantification of function in infarcted myocardium and its border zones.

Left ventricular (LV) circumferential strain and rotation have been introduced as clinical markers of myocardial function. This study investigates how regional LV apical rotation and strain can be used in combination to assess function in the infarcted ventricle. In healthy subjects (n = 15) and patients with myocardial infarction (n = 23), LV apical segmental rotation and strain were measured ...

Echocardiographic Assessment of Left Ventricle Torsion by Tissue Doppler and Velocity Vector Imaging

Introduction Left ventricular (LV) twist is believed to store potential energy and plays an important role in generating diastolic suction. Recent advances in echocardiography techniques have allowed quantification of LV twist. The aim of the present study was to compare LV twist and torsion in healthy human subjects determined by velocity vector imaging (VVI) and tissue Doppler imaging (TDI) a...

Global and regional left ventricular myocardial deformation measures by magnetic resonance feature tracking in healthy volunteers: comparison with tagging and relevance of gender

BACKGROUND Feature tracking software offers measurements of myocardial strain, velocities and displacement from cine cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) images. We used it to record deformation parameters in healthy adults and compared values to those obtained by tagging. METHODS We used TomTec 2D Cardiac Performance Analysis software to derive global, regional and segmental myocardial de...
